2013 Summer Camp Opportunities

4-H Junior Wildlife Stewards Resident Camp

Oregon 4-H Center in Salem

(grades 3-6)

 

The camp is designed for youth who wish to explore wildlife and the wonders of nature in an outdoor setting.

 

Trained staff from OSU Extension 4-H will provide guidance in fishing, wildlife tracking, horse back riding, archery, nature crafts, bird watching, forestry, canoeing, evening campfire programs, and more. Campers will take on new responsibilities and learn new skills as members of the camp community.

Forest and Farm 4-H Day Camp

North Portland/Forest Park

(ages 6-12)

 

Explore the ecosystems of Portland from farms and forests to fields and rivers in a fun, creative, and nurturing atmosphere. Campers develop skills in a variety of areas from fort building to cooking, gardening, botanical arts, sewing, theatre production, fishing and much more.

Exploring and discovering, encouraging and challenging; that’s what 4-H day camps are all about. At Alpenrose Dairyville, 4-H campers have fun learning about themselves and the world. They have a great time making new friends in the old fashioned setting. Campers have fun growing socially, intellectually and emotionally at this 4-H camp. We create a safe and incredibly fun environment where kids can be themselves, learn new skills, and have excellent role models. We believe that the 4-H camp experiences in store will help to create lasting memories with good ol’ fashioned fun. Campers need not be 4-H members to attend these day camps.

4-H Inner City Youth Institute Camp

(24 camper slots):

open to youth in grades 9-12 (entering 9th or completing 12 okay too)

Cost: Free

 

In this camp, youth participants will travel and spend time both at the Oregon State University Camps and camping on the Oregon Coast. July 29-August 2, youth will stay at OSU July 29 & August 1st.  Youth will camp at Cape Perpetua in the Sisulaw July 30th & 31st. The campers will then give a presentation to parents on Sunday, August 4th.

Farm-tastic Summer Day Camp

Jump for Joy Farm in partnership with 4-H

(ages 6-12)

 

Camp is structured around sustainable agriculture and urban homesteading, farm ecology and environmental education, animal husbandry and equine programs, as well as traditional camp activities on a diverse 27-acre farm just 30 minutes from Portland.

4-H International Camps


at the 4-H Education Center in Salem, OR
Cost: $100 per week

 

The 24-hour-a-day "4-H International Summer Camps" are designed for underserved youth in grades 3rd-12th. It focuses on helping youth improve their academic skills, career exploration, meeting college students, meet professionals from different Community Colleges and Universities, develop leadership skills, and participate in fun physical activities like archery, volleyball, basketball, canoeing, soccer, and swimming.

4-H Wagon Train

Ages:  Families & youth grades 4-12

Cost:  $200 +$35.00 for animals

 

The 4H Wagon Train has been going for over 30 years and has touched many lives. We welcome Hikers, Equestrian’s (horses, mules, donkeys), support personnel and of course WAGON’s. We provide all food and water; the Camp Cook and the Youth cook meals. We bring the Certified Weed Free hay. We provide rolling restrooms “Biffies”. You bring yourself, your personal gear (packing list provided) your horse or a great pair of hiking boots and MOST importantly a good attitude with a willingness to learn, work together and have an amazing experience in the wilderness. The 4H guidelines for how we work, learn, play, and conduct ourselves at the general meetings during the year, the Tune Up Trek in June, and the Wagon Train Trek in July which is 8-days.

The new Portland area 4-H program also trains adult volunteers who lead 4-H youth programs and projects.

 

The 4-H Club Experience:  4-H Green Clubs and Community Programs

 

Youth and their parents may now form 4-H clubs focusing on topics like preparing food from local gardens; exploring alternative solar, wind and wave energy; making and repairing clothing; taking care of 'back-yard' chickens; or owning and maintaining a bicycle and much more!

 

Sustainable Living Schools and Club Leader Training

 

The 4-H Sustainable Living Schools and Club Leader training is open to all teachers, 4-H leaders, parent volunteers, community partners and other adults interested in helping prepare youth of today for a sustainable future.  Visit our trainings/workshops website for upcoming trainings.
