Feedback: A Gift or a Brick
Paul Biwan
Giving and receiving feedback is a skill-based tool rooted in conversation. When done well, feedback is a valuable gift that enhances performance. When not, it weighs on people like a ton of bricks, eroding performance. The target audience are those in positions who need to give feedback, but is open to all. Feedback, as a conversation, will be dissected into its parts. Strategies and tools for giving and receiving feedback will be shared.
The second block of class will primarily be used to allow participants to practice and develop this skill using scenarios and discussion.

Too often we organize our web pages using academic structure and jargon. The key to attracting new audiences and helping existing audiences find what they need depends on how we present our information. We'll show you how to look at your existing site with a “new” eye that will help non-Extension and long-time Extension clients go to your site, easily locate what they need, and return frequently. Bring a list of your site’s left rail or general organization to this classroom activity. Be prepared to work with others who are not in your office to create a dynamic organization of your site. We’ll share handouts for future reference, provide information on OSU and federal guidelines, and allow time for questions and answers.

Exploring the Dialogue Education Approach to Teaching and Learning
Debra Minar Driscoll
Whether you are new to teaching or have lots of experience and want to enhance your learners' experiences, this session on the Dialogue Education Approach is for you! By switching the focus from "what the instructor says about a topic" to "what the participants will do with the content to demonstrate their learning", adult learners are invited to take new ideas, apply them and reflect on their significance for their own lives and context. In this session, I will be modeling the principles and practices of the Dialogue Education Approach by facilitating structured small group "Learning Tasks" that will cover the seven steps of learning activity design, introduce methods for assessing learning needs and designing achievement-based objectives, and explain concepts that include learner safety, sequence and reinforcement, relevance and immediacy, learners as decision makers, and two-way accountability. Come prepared for a fun, relaxed, full day immersion into a new way of thinking about teaching and learning.
