Steps to becoming a new 4-H volunteer/leader

Adult volunteer leaders are the core group of every successful 4-H program. As a 4-H volunteer leader, you play a key role in helping young people grow as individuals, acquire new knowledge and skills, and become active members of their communities. Begin your 4-H volunteer leadership journey by reading and completing these documents:

Volunteer Service Application & Background Check Release Authorization 
Adult Volunteer Enrollment Forms   
Condition of Volunteer Service (Volunteer Insurance Coverage)

Potential leaders must attend a training session. The potential leader will be contacted to set-up a date and time for the training session. Each session takes about 2 hours. The training sessions are held at the OSU Extension Service in Baker County, 2600 East Street, Baker City. Other requirements:

Have all reference requests returned to the 4-H office.

Meet with Janice Cowan, Baker County 4-H faculty, for an interview.

Complete other necessary documents.

When all requirements are completed and your background information has been processed, you will receive a letter from the Baker County 4-H Staff. If you are approved as a volunteer leader, you are ready to start your 4-H club.

As a leader, you will have the personal satisfaction and pride of knowing you have contributed significantly to the personal development of our Baker County youth.
