Scholarships and Awards

County scholarships are available for youth in the 12th grade. There are five Steve Moos scholarships for youth in beef, sheep, swine and dairy cattle projects, the Bateman Scholarship and Hitchcock Scholarship for youth in any project area, and the Horse Leaders Scholarship. Each is worth $750, except the Horse Leaders one, which could range from $100-$500, depending on the funds available. To be awarded a county scholarship youth must have received a 4-H County Medal.

Youth with strong leadership (Junior Leader, plus county level leadership), active community service, and showing growth in their projects are good candidates for these scholarships. The 4-Hers must have up-to-date & complete records, as well as specific scholarship forms and information. Have the members call the Extension office at 766-6750 to get all the materials sent to them. It is a good idea to talk to Tammy Skubinna first to get some background information.

Youth who plan ahead and get leadership activities as intermediate and early senior 4-H members have the best chance for these scholarships. Youth who wait until their 12th grade year to do leadership usually don't get these scholarships. It is encouraged that leaders give youth as many leadership opportunities as possible in your club and to let Tammy know which youth are interested in county level leadership opportunities.
