About Extension's Gardening Program

The aim of the Oregon State University Extension Service gardening program is to help beginning and experienced gardeners alike effectively and sustainably use their soil and water resources for productive harvests, aesthetically pleasing landscapes, and personal satisfaction.

The gardening program is one of many OSU Extension Service programs-in agriculture, forestry, family and community development, energy, Sea Grant, and 4-H youth development-that bring practical knowledge to people throughout Oregon. These informal education programs extend the expertise and knowledge of OSU and the Land Grant University System to all areas of the state.

The Extension gardening program has been expanding in response to public demand. National estimates indicate that well over 50 percent of American households are engaged in some type of gardening activity.
