Solar Kiln Project
This past winter a mobile solar kiln for drying lumber was brought to Clackamas County to demonstrate how it works and to evaluate its effectiveness in our climate. The kiln was designed by Extension faculty at Oregon State University in Corvallis twelve years ago. Extensive restoration and redesign was done with the help of local forest owners in Clackamas County.

Scott Leavengood, Director of OSU's Wood Innovation Center (OWIC) in Corvallis, has posted a slide show about the restoration project on his OWIC website (http://owic.oregonstate.edu/solarkiln). Also, he is posting data being collected as experience is gained drying lumber in various locations around the state. Check this site out for the latest information.
