4-H Jumping Requirements

REVISED POLICY 3/20/13

Due to confusion over the requirements in the February newsletter, we have modified the criteria for the 2013 Horse Fair.  Please contact Lori Prichard if you have any questions at (503) 544-3868.

In order to make jumping more successful, fun and safe we have added Advancement requirements for Fair 2013

  • To compete in Trot-a-course you must complete Level 1 Jumping advancements.
  • To compete in 1’6”-2’3” you must complete Level 1 and Level 2 Jumping advancements.
  • To compete in 2’3”-2’6” you must complete Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Jumping advancements.

Any person knowledgeable about Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences can sign your advancements. If you don't know anyone that can help you, you can work on a few steps at a jumping clinic.

*Please remember that our 4-H Jumping Coordinator will have final say about who is safe to enter the ring during horse fair! Members that are not secure over the warm-up fence will be not be allowed in the ring this year. The 4-H Contest Guide and State Fair rules support this practice.

If you are not already receiving quality instruction in jumping, we strongly recommend that you attend one or more of the clinics that the Clackamas County 4-H Horse Program has organized for youth that wish to learn more about Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences. The clinic dates are March 9, April 13, May 11, and June 15 (note new date!)Registration and release form required.
