Many people who live on Oregon Coast or come to visit are interested in buying, cooking and eating locally caught seafood. There are many places to find locally caught seafood - in local fish markets or even directly from fishermen off the docks. But the array choices can be confusing and research shows that many are intimidated by the working harbor and shy away from investigating the possibilities. Oregon Sea Grant and the Oregon State University Extension Service help people learn about fishing ports and teach them how to shop for fresh Oregon seafood in Newport and Warrenton through the Shop at the Dock & Beyond program. Our tours in Warrenton include a guided dock walk, and a behind the scenes tour of Skipanon Brand Seafoods Cannery. See below for up to date information on remaining tours this year.

Clatsop Commercial Fisheries Community Leaders Tour

On May 31, 2017, Oregon Sea Grant and OSU Extension - Clatsop County hosted the first Clatsop Commercial Fisheries Tour for Community Leaders. Over 90 elected officials, business leaders, fisheries managers, and state agency representatives attended the tour, which included stops at WCT Marine, Pacific Seafoods facility, Da Yang Seafoods, and Englund Marine & Industrial Supply. Participants learned about the economic impact of and sustainability practices of Clatsop County commercial fishing industry. We hope to make this tour an annual spring event.
