4-H Dorm Renovation Project
4-H Dorm Renovation Project Recieves $50,000 Ford Family Foundation Grant
February 27, 2014 - It was just one year ago that we were announcing plans to begin renovations on the dorms in the livestock pavilion on the Curry County Fairgrounds. Today, we are excited to announce that the final funds have been secured and this project is now in full swing!
On February 27th we received word from the Ford Family Foundation that our project would be fully funded. The $50,000 grant is match funding to the $135,000 already raised for the project.
With Phase I of renovations complete and remaining work underway, contracting crews and volunteers will be busy between now and early summer.
“It has been a fast paced year full of fundraising, plan development and new partnerships,” explains Michelle Carrillo, 4-H Youth Development Coordinator and lead project manager. “I am excited to be moving forward with the final phase of renovations.”
Usage of the facility will be open to community groups, non-profit organizations, ecotourism groups and more. In preparation for group reservations, a subcommittee of Curry County Fair Board members will be focusing on the development of promotions, facility maintenance and pricing structure.
The Ford Family Foundation was established in 1957 by Kenneth W. and Hallie E. Ford. Its mission is “Successful citizens and vital rural communities” in Oregon and Siskiyou County, California. The Foundation is located in Roseburg, Oregon, with a Scholarship office in Eugene.
Plans to host a public grand opening event are in the works. More information will be available in the coming months.
If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about this project, please contact Michelle Carrillo at (541) 247-6672.
