| Nutrition Education Volunteer Application |
Concerned about the food and shopping choices people are making that affects their health? If you enjoy helping people discover ways to improve their lifestyle then you might enjoy becoming a Family Food Education Volunteer in Central Oregon for OSU Extension. Volunteers demonstrate cooking healthy recipes at food pantries and some community agencies and encourage the public to take small steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Volunteers may also have opportunities to help lead nutrition classes along side our OSU Extension staff. All information and resources are research-based.
To become a Nutrition Education Volunteer applicants participate in a 6 hour training session at the OSU/Deschutes County Extension office. Once trained, volunteers commit to volunteering for a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers can go out into community food pantries and do recipe demonstrations to teach clients how to cook with healthy foods. They also have the option to team teach nutrition classes to youth or work in an office support role for various projects. Click here to read more about the program and see the application. To register for the class, contact Glenda Hyde, Faculty/Instructor at glenda.hyde@oregonstate.edu.
