This is a great opportunity to expand your home gardening knowledge while meeting people with the same interests. The program provides training in botany, disease identification, soil science, insect identification and control, and information on specific plants such as ornamentals, berries, lawns, vegetables, and orchard plants; everything you need to get started to answer home gardening questions. After the first part of this training program, you'll then be involved in work to expand your knowledge by working with the Master Gardener Plant Clinic for 36 hours which provides information to the public's gardening questions under the guidance of experienced veteran Master Gardeners. In addition you'll work 24 hours on other projects including plant propagation and care in the greenhouses, gardening work at the Discovery Garden, and information tables at fun events around the county. The total work commitment is 60 hours to complete the Master Gardener Training.
Come to the Douglas County OSU Extension Service office and complete an application for the next Master Gardener Training program. Or the application is available online and you can complete the application, then call the office at 541-672-4461 to schedule a meeting with Steve Renquist, pay fees (cash or check), and get answers to any of your questions.
Along with the application is a letter that explains the details of this once a year Master Gardener Training in Douglas County Oregon. Please let us know if you will not be available in October for the appointment with Steve or in November for the group orientation and receipt of your text book.
