July 15, 2014  -  Roseburg OR  -  Douglas County Weed Tour:  Aquatic Weed ID & Control.  Carri Pirosko, Integrated Weed Management Coordinator of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, is coordinating the tour this year. The tour will focus on aquatic and riparian weeds. Transportation and applicator license credits will be available to participants.       1. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 – Topic: Review the publication called “Evaluation of Flock Production”. Find that at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/douglas/sites/default/files/documents/lf/LnF0703EvalSheepProd.pdf.  Please try and do an evaluation of your flock before the meeting. At the meeting, we will read a little, discuss, read a little, and discuss.
      2. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - Selecting and Managing Rams – I can present information on Expected Progeny Differences (EPD) and Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for the genetics discussion. Dr. Paul, could explain the importance of and procedure for the breeding soundness exam at this meeting.   • October 8, 2013: Reducing Labor at Lambing Time  – Webinar. As part of the American Sheep Industry Association’s Grow Our Flock initiative, a webinar entitled Reducing Labor at Lambing Time will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at 7 p.m. EDT (4 pm PT). Presenters for the webinar are Philip Berg and Mike Caskey of the Pipestone Lamb and Wool Program and the host is Jay Parsons, Ph.D., Colorado State University and Optimal Ag. The program will discuss labor-saving watering, feeding and bedding systems and present layouts of warm lambing barns and sheep flow options.   • October 14, 2013 (6-7 pm in Roseburg):  New Shepherd’s Group is forming in Roseburg. This is a new group of producers and others who will get together to share techniques and information about raising sheep in the Umpqua Valley and discuss management and production issues. This will be the first meeting of the group so this is a good time to come, get acquainted and help plan the who, what, when, and where of the group.
