Bankruptcy Debtor Education Program
“Moving Forward to Financial Security”
The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 requires that people who file bankruptcy are to complete an approved Debtor Education course prior to having their debts discharged. The Department of Justice’s U.S. Trustee Program has approved Oregon State University Extension Service as a provider of the debtor education course. Approval does not endorse or assure quality of a Provider's services. Courses are offered at a variety of times and locations throughout the state of Oregon. Below is a list of upcoming Debtor Education courses. Course Information The 2 hour classroom-based Bankruptcy Debtor Education Program: Moving Forward to Financial Security meets the legal requirements for personal finance management course for anyone who has filed for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy in the state of Oregon. Participants who complete this training program and required course evaluation form receive a certificate that documents they have satisfied the personal finance management requirement of the Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy filling process. This course will provide practical, unbiased information to reduce spending, increase savings, and manage credit wisely. It will cover the following areas: Goal Setting Developing a spending plan Recordkeeping Insurance Managing Credit Consumer Protection Laws OSU Extension Service does not provide the credit counseling session that is also necessary to complete the bankruptcy filing requirements.
