Ever heard of lactose intolerance? Read on to learn about this common problem.
Some people do not have the enzyme to digest lactose, the sugar in milk. They have lactose intolerance.
Lactose intolerance can be mild or severe. People with mild lactose intolerance may experience discomfort and gas after eating too many dairy products. Usually these people can drink a little milk, or can tolerate cheese, yogurt, and low lactose milk like Lactaid.
Lactose intolerance can also be severe, causing painful discomfort, bloating, gas and diarrhea. These people may need to avoid all milk and milk products.
Remember, leafy greens, soy products and juice with added calcium are good non-dairy sources of calcium.
