Basic Rules

Keep it Clean!

Everything that touches food should be clean.

Start by practicing good personal hygiene. Washing your hands is one of the most important things you can do to prevent illness. Always wash your hands after:

  • Changing a diaper
  • Going to the bathroom
  • Touching your mouth, nose, face and hair
  • Petting animals
  • Handling raw poultry, meat and fish
  • Smoking

Other good hygiene habits include:

  • Clean fingernails
  • Bathe regularly
  • Tie long hair back
  • Wear a clean apron or clean clothing when cooking

Remember, washing hands is one of the most important things you can do to prevent illness!
