Keeping things clean also means keeping foods separate — don't cross-contaminate!
Cross-contamination happens when bacteria on one kind of food contaminates another food. When cutting up meat, poultry or fish, be sure to sanitize knives and utensils, cutting board, counters, and your hands before touching or cutting up another kind of food.
Always wash utensils and cutting boards with hot, soapy water. Then sanitize: spray, soak, or wipe surfaces with a mixture of one teaspoon chlorine bleach to one quart of water. Don’t forget to sanitize your sink and faucets, too!
