Family & Community
Oregon State University Extension's Family & Community Development Field Faculty work collaboratively with community organizations and Extension volunteers to develop programs in areas that include: healthy aging, nutrition, food safety, food preparation and preservation, mold information, parenting and community support.
Sharon Johnson is an Associate Professor with Oregon State University Extension Service. She is located at the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center in Central Point, Oregon and has teaching, applied research and program development responsibilities for Jackson and Josephine Counties. Her areas of interest and emphasis are Healthy Aging/Gerontology and Nutrition/Food Safety.
Healthy Aging Through the Media
Sharon Johnson writes a weekly column titled Healthy Aging that educates, informs and entertains the general public about age-related health behaviors. The column is published in the Medford Mail Tribune each Tuesday (Healthy Living section). Chronic Disease Self-Management
Sharon Johnson is a certified Master Trainer in the Stanford University curriculum, Chronic Disease Self-management (CDMSP). In collaboration with health and human service service professionals in the community and the Rogue Valley Council of Governments' Senior and Disability Services, she regularly offers 6-week classes to assist individuals who want to learn to self-manage their chronic disease conditions. She is also a trainer in the Powerful Tools of Caregiving. (www.sohealthyoregon.org)
