Volunteers are an important part of the Extension Service. Hundreds
of local residents lead 4-H clubs. Other volunteers attend Extension
training courses, then share what they learned with others.
4-H Volunteers spend an average of 220 hours per year preparing
and teaching our youth.
The Klamath County Master Gardener Program trains volunteers who
are interested in furthering their home horticultural skills while
helping to provide the local community with sound horticultural
information. Master Gardener volunteers donate the equivalent each
year of 1 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) home horticulturist.
Family community leadership volunteers teach county residents leadership
skills and help them more effectively participate in governmental
activities.
The Master Woodland Manager Program trains local owners of small
woodlots about forest management. Trainees receive 85 hours of instruction
in topics including management planning, forest measurements, reforestation,
timber harvesting, and business management. Trainees then repay
for their training by serving as volunteers, helping other local
woodland owners better manage their woodlots.
Still other volunteers provide farmland, woodlots and animals for
educational demonstrations and trials.
