Master Gardener Program
The Master Gardener™ program is designed to increase horticultural awareness among participates through basic plant and soil science concepts. The training's are provided by OSU Extension staff, local horticultural experts, and community specialist. Training's will cover the core subjects of Botany; Entomology; Plant Pathology; Pesticide Safety; Soils; and Orchard Care. Besides the core seven classes participates will also receiving training's that will help overcome the challenges of growing plants in Lake County. Once the Master Gardener™ training is complete participate must be willing to donate their time in serving the county as a trained Master Gardener™ in order to graduate. This may be achieved in a number of ways such as; volunteering to answer horticultural questions at the Extension Office, working with the community garden, and assisting at the Master Gardener™ fair booth. The donation of volunteer hours is considered “pay back” for the training session. The only cost of the Master Gardener™ training is a $75 material fee which will over a handbook that was written especially for the northwest.
