4-H Youth

School Enrichment

Each year more than 14,000 students in Lane County use 4-H youth development materials as part of the school curriculum. Our 4-H materials give teachers the opportunity to use these educational materials in their classrooms--they do not have to be 4-H volunteer leaders!

The 4-H school enrichment materials offer a research-based, educationally sound, and interactive curriculum that emphasizes “learning by doing” experiences for students. Master sets of materials are available without charge to classroom teachers. Sets of materials for classroom use are available for purchase.

There are several ways to use these materials:
  • As a special module within a curriculum
  • By a resource person assisting the teacher
  • As a special project for a special project group of students

Oregon 4-H Wildlife Stewards

A popular and rewarding 4-H school enrichment activity is the Wildlife Stewards program. Trained volunteers work in cooperation with local schools to teach young people about wildlife habitat and environmental stewardship.

The 4-H Wildlife Stewards Program assists students and teachers to create, use and sustain wildlife habitat education sites on school grounds. These special areas provide hands-on science learning opportunities for students and teachers.

Volunteer wildlife stewards combine science with math, natural history, language arts, and art by conducting cooperative learning projects to help teach students learn about wildlife and the environment. Please visit with us if you would like to learn more about this program.
