About the Food Pantry Project
As part of the federal government’s Food and Nutrition Service, Lane County receives commodity foods for distribution to limited resource individuals and families. Volunteers help families by sharing nutrition information, recipes, and food preparation tips. They often suggest ways to prepare unfamiliar foods that may be included in a food box.
Our goals are to:
- Increase the use and consumption of underutilized USDA commodity foods
- Provide simple nutritious recipes and demonstrations at food pantry sites
- Help those receiving food boxes improve the nutritional quality of their diets
- Involve volunteers who share their expertise, providing a community service while promoting Extension programs
The Food Pantry Project is a partnership between the OSU Extension Service in Lane County Nutrition Education Program, Family Food Education/Master Food Preserver Program, Study Group Program, and FOOD for Lane County.
