Volunteer Opportunities

Become a FFE/MFP volunteer
If you are interested in helping others learn food preservation and food safety procedures, consider enrolling in the OSU Extension Family Food Education/Master Food Preserver (FFE/MFP) training program. We train volunteers in proper food preservation and food safety techniques. Our program is open to anyone interested in food preservation.

Volunteers receive 40-plus hours of training and pay a small materials and lab fee (and must successfully complete a state certification exam). In return, each volunteer is asked to give at least 40 hours of service during the food preservation season. No previous food preservation experience is necessary.

We offer a volunteer training program in early April at the Lane County Office of the OSU Extension Service in Eugene. By becoming a FFE/MFP volunteer, you help provide a valuable service in your community.

Become a Food Pantry volunteer
Lane County receives commodity foods for distribution to limited resource individuals and families. Trained volunteers help families by sharing nutrition information, recipes, and food preparation tips. Volunteers often suggest ways to prepare unfamiliar foods that may be included in a food box. The Food Pantry Project is a partnership between the OSU Extension Service's Lane County Nutrition Education Program, Family Food Education/Master Food Preserver programs, Study Group Program, and FOOD for Lane County.

If you're interested in becoming a Food Pantry volunteer, check out the Food Pantry Web page or call the Nutrition Education Program in the Lane County Office of the OSU Extension Service at 541-682-4281, Mon-Thurs, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. For services in Spanish call 541-682-7325.
