Welcome

The University of Wyoming and the Western States Mid-Managers Planning Committee are pleased to welcome your participation in the 2007 Western Regional Extension Middle Managers Conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming from July 17 to 19. 2007.  Jackson is nestled in the mountains of northwestern Wyoming near Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

The Western Region Middle Managers Conference is an important annual gathering of Extension leadership from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.  The conference is designed to provide professional development and networking opportunities for Cooperative Extension professionals with administrative responsibilities.  These professionals include district and regional directors, associate directors, county directors, county staff chairs, as well as individuals who are considering moving into leadership positions in their state organizations.  We guarantee that you will enjoy meeting peers and building lasting professional relationships at this regional conference.

Purpose of the 2007 Conference

In most states, the Extension organization is getting old with many districts having an average age over 50 years.  However, it can be difficult to attract new professionals to our organization.  When we do attract young professionals, we may not understand the differences between generations, including dress, work ethics, values, and communication style.  These differences may cause stress in the workplace.  This conference will help you understand these differences, improve communication, and make positive changes to build a quality work environment.

We look forward to an informative and productive conference in an environment of breathtaking beauty and historical surroundings.  Together, we will address critical issues for Extension education in the western states for which there are no simple answers.  We will learn and practice new skills related to a healthy office environment.  These skill areas include Generational Differences in the Workplace, Situational Leadership, and True Colorsâ system.  Please check the agenda for more details.

You are going to enjoy Jackson and the surrounding area.  Jackson is just a 90-minute drive from Idaho Falls and a five-hour drive from Salt Lake City.  Multiple airlines serve Jackson, Idaho Falls and Pocatello, Idaho at very reasonable prices.  The nearby national parks, hiking, fishing, camping, art, and relaxation attract many people to this area.  Plan your family summer vacation around this conference.

The conference begins Tuesday afternoon with registration from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in our conference center, the Snow King Resort.  The Mid-Managers Conference will open with an evening barbeque from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and opportunity to meet your colleagues.

The Snow King Resort is within walking distance of the downtown area.  The Snow King Resort is a four-star facility.  The resort has:
