Online Learning

OSU Extension Forestry and Natural Resources has developed a series of online learning modules that cover beginner management and planning, wood science for professionals, and the state's natural history.

How to Manage your Forest

The “How to Manage Your Forest” online Extension program is designed to introduce you to a broad range of fundamental forest management topics that will help you achieve your unique forestland goals and objectives.

Alternative Forest Management

While we know a lot about intensive forest management as it applies to even-aged, short rotation forestry, using silviculture to create more complex and diverse forest structures is more nuanced, and often very site specific. A cookbook approach does not always work. To address this, OSU Extension recently produced a series of Alternative case studies designed to help landowners learn from working examples. The case study approach requires an examination of landowner objectives, site factors, stand conditions, and results beyond the initial silviculture treatment.

Oregon Forest Management Planning

This site provides guidance and resources to woodland owners and forestry professionals who are writing forest management plans.

Wood-Based Composite Science Short Course Series

The Wood-Based Composite Science Short Course series provides mill operators as well as career professionals with a fundamental knowledge of wood as an engineering material in the manufacturing of wood-based composites. If you complete the series, you may be eligible for a Certificate of Completion and will be able to improve manufacturing efficiency and product performance, troubleshoot processing problems and enhance your value as an employee.
