Pudding River Watershed Council
Pre-1949 watershed information sought

People who know about fish use and habitat in the Pudding River watershed before 1949 are asked to help compile a history of the region.

The Pudding River Watershed Council is seeking volunteers to contribute or compile historic fish-use and habitat information for the Pudding River Watershed and its tributaries: Rock, Mill, Silver, Butte, Abiqua and Drift Creeks and the Little Pudding River. The Pudding River watershed includes Molalla, Woodburn, Salem, Keizer and Silverton.

Items that would help include early photos, stories or documents pertaining to local Native American culture, mills, dams, canneries, crops, livestock, timber, fires, transportation, fish surveys, floods and wildlife sightings.

Pringle Creek Watershed Council

Presentations cover invasive weeds

Salem homeowners and property managers can learn how to identify and get rid of invasive weeds that are threats to local creeks and rivers. With a $6,200 grant from the city of Salem, the Pringle Creek Watershed Council will deliver brief presentations to Salem groups upon request.

The presentation covers weed identification, control methods and resources for help with weed problems. The targeted weeds include English ivy, Himalayan blackberry, Japanese knotweed, purple loosestrife and others.

If you are interested in hosting a presentation or viewing the brochures, call Robin Straughan, (503) 399-5741, Ext. 130. The publications and presentation are available online at www.open.org/~mariswcd/ urbanweeds.html
