For woodland owners in Marion County, the best forestry education opportunity of the year will be Tree School, March 24, 2018 at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City.

Class catalogs will be mailed in mid-January to 15,000 woodland owners including those in Marion County. Tree School will offer 77 different classes covering topics of interest to tree growers.

Tree School attendees can learn about tree ID, woodland management, pest management, wildlife enhancement, Christmas tree management, chainsaw operations, safety and maintenance, fire hazard reduction, forest fungi and many other topics. Some more advanced sessions focus on business aspects, timber harvesting, permaculture, and managing forests near streams. For the first time, a series of sessions for youth aged 6-12 years old will be offered for those who wish to have their younger children participate.

"Tree school is a great opportunity for woodland owners to learn in class, and by connecting with other woodland owners. Plus, there will be about 60 exhibitors and service providers in the Exhibit Hall,” says Glenn Ahrens, Oregon State University’s Extension Forestry Agent for Clackamas, Marion, and Hood River Counties.

This is the 28th Tree School since its inception in 1990. About 750 woodland owners, foresters, and exhibitors attend the program each year.

The most popular classes fill very quickly, usually in the first week of registration. Registration will open January 24, 2018 and catalogs will be available at the OSU Extension Marion County Office by January 19 or online at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/clackamas/tree-school
