Tips on how to review the botany course materials

There are several ways to navigate through the course materials, and each method provides a way to review the materials. The buttons on the right side of the home page link to the first page of each major section. The links at the top of each page also lead to the beginning pages for each section.

To move through the material sequentially, use the backback and forwardforward buttons.

Here are additional tools to help you through the course material, or to locate specific information. Although the files are arranged sequentially, reviewing the course by using these resources provides some flexibility in how you approach the material.

Quizzes are linked at the end of each section. The quizzes are designed to let you know when you have given the right answer, so you can test yourself on what you've learned. You can take the quizzes again at the end of the course, to see how well you have retained what you learned earlier. Use the quiz list to go review the quizzes.

The list of figures and tables gives you a way to look up specific information after you have read it. You can also use this list to review the course. You can use the links to each item to go to the page containing more information about the figure or table.

Key words are linked to the glossary where the terms are defined. Reviewing the glossary items is another good way to review the material.

There are many links to additional Internet resources elsewhere on the World Wide Web which you are invited to explore. Although these are not a formal part of the course or the training manual, many of the sites have additional images, tools, and information to enhance your understanding of botany.

We have also included a table of contents--the site content page. It contains a list of the pages and the topics covered on each one.

You may want to bookmark each of these tools so you can return to them easily and often using the bookmark features of your browser software:

You can put these links into an e-mail message and address the e-mail to yourself. This can be particularly helpful if you check your e-mail and work on the course from different computers at different locations.

Another trick: If you're suddenly called away from studying, select the location line at the top of your browser window and copy the URL of the page you are on. Paste it into an e-mail message and send it to yourself. Then you can use the link in the e-mail to find where you left off when you return. You can also reply to yourself with notes about the subject matter or what you plan to do next. This is a virtual version of tying a string around your finger. You may even find yourself virtually talking to yourself--welcome to cyberspace.
