Comprehensive Training in Organic Gardening
Learn the knowledge and skills of organic gardening, urban agriculture, and ecological landscaping. This program is similar in scope and scale to the OSU Extension Service Master Gardenerâ„¢ Program... with an organic gardening focus. It utilizes a hands-on and active-learning format to teach participants about all aspects of growing and caring for plants without synthesized chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This 60-hour training was created by OSU Extension, Oregon Tilth, and other program partners to support the groundswell of interest in organic gardening, ecological landscaping, and food security in the Portland metro area.
OGCP Course Content
Soils, compost, plant biology, plant propagation, garden planning/design, vegetable gardens, ecological landscapes, ornamental plants, rain gardens, entomology, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and fruit and nut production. The 2010 OGCP does not include a volunteer requirement. We hope that you apply the knowledge and skills gained through this program both toward your own garden and toward meaningful projects in the community. See OGCP Syllabus and OGCP Schedule for spring 2010 to learn more about the content and structure of the course.
