Volunteer to Help at Mini-College

Would you like to be more involved in OMGA 2014 Mini-College?  Curious about what happens behind the scenes?  Consider volunteering at this year’s event. We’d love to have your help!  If you are willing to volunteer in some capacity, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Please indicate your willingness to help when you register for Mini-College.

There’s a space on the registration form for you to mark if and how you’d like to help.  Once registrations have been received and reviewed, you will be contacted by the Speaker Coordinator or Volunteer Coordinator with dates, times, and further instructions.

There are many ways you can contribute:

SPEAKER ASSISTANT:  If you volunteer as a Speaker Assistant, you will be assigned to do that job in a session for which you registered.  You won’t have to miss any sessions you want to attend!  Your job as Speaker Assistant is to meet and accompany the speaker to the classroom and help with setup, introduce the speaker by reading a prepared introduction, be on hand to help during the session as needed, and close the session by thanking the speaker and initiating a round of applause.

DOOR MONITOR:  If you volunteer as a Door Monitor, you will be assigned to do that job in a session for which you registered.  You won’t have to miss any sessions you want to attend!  Your job as Door Monitor is to arrive early at the designated classroom, welcome attendees, distribute handouts (if any), check tickets of those entering the classroom IF registration is limited, and sit near the back of the room to monitor the door and assist late arrivals.

COOKIES:  To keep costs down, we are providing our own break refreshments this year. You can help in this effort by bringing 4 dozen cookies (or more!), preferably homemade, to share with fellow gardeners.  More details about where and when to deliver cookies will be available later.

OTHER:  There are certainly other ways to pitch in and help ensure that Mini-College runs smoothly.  We may be looking for people to help set out cookies, work with the Silent Auction or registration, etc. or just do what needs to be done on the spot. Right now we can’t be certain where volunteers will be used, but if you are willing to help as needed, please let us know.
