Program Area

All mean difference scores in this cluster were positive, although not all were significantly positive.

The Agriculture Program’s difference score for "new communication technologies" showed less gain than any other program area.

Sea Grant and FCD showed the largest (positive) shift for "Extension people are committed to adapting programs and methods to the changing times."

FCD and Sea Grant showed the largest (positive) shift for "my program area is able to respond quickly to develop and deliver programs when an issue is time-sensitive."

FCD and 4-H showed the largest (positive) shift for "providing staff development activities that help to prepare our professionals to work effectively with particular segments of the population that are growing (such as recent immigrants, the elderly, etc.)." Data table & Significance tests

Location

Analysis of variance shows no significant difference, by location, for the “NOW” averages of any of the four flexibility items. Each location grouping – County, Corvallis Campus, and “Other” (mostly Research/Extension Centers) produced average “NOW” scores that positioned the four flexibility items in the same rank-order as did all respondents.

Regarding the Average Change (1995–2001) for the flexibility items, ANOVA indicates that one item has a significant difference by location: 6f. Extension people are committed to adapting our programs and methods to the changing times.

The Average Change for each of the three location groups was positive, but the Average Change for the “Other” locations (primarily Research/Extension Centers) was significantly higher that for the campus- or county-based respondents. Data table & Significance tests

Hire Date

Respondents were compared by hire date (before or after January 1, 1995). Using a non-paired T-test to assess the differences in “NOW” (mid-2001) ratings by date of hire, only one item showed a significant difference: 5e. My program area is able to respond quickly to develop and deliver programs when an issue is time-sensitive. More recent hires rated this item more highly than those hired before 1995.

There were no significant differences by date of hire in the Average Change (1995–2001) of the flexibility items. Data table & Significance tests
