Breakout Comparisons

Six breakout comparison charts are included in the following interactive illustration. Click the thumbnail charts or type their numbers (1-6) on your keyboard to display and switch between charts. Commentary, with links to data tables and significance-test results, begins just below the illustration.

Program Area

For each question, analysis of variance indicates significant differences between groups, by program area, in the NOW means. For 4-H and Ag, the NOW means are relatively high for both items; for FCD, they are relatively low. Forestry’s is relatively high for 4f (non-Extension faculty’s scholarship’s contribution). For every program area, question 4e (regarding Extension scholarship’s contribution) has a significantly higher NOW mean than 4f.

Average changes were positive for all program areas for both questions. For 4e (regarding Extension scholarship’s contribution) but not 4f, ANOVA indicates significant differences between groups in the Average Change (1995-2001): the positive Average Changes for Forestry and for Sea Grant are relatively high; FCD’s is relatively low. Data table & Significance tests

Location

For each question, analysis of variance indicates significant differences between groups, by location, in the NOW means: county respondents’ NOW means are relatively low; campus respondents’ NOW means are relatively high. In other words, campus-based respondents are more positive about scholarship’s role in enhancing Extension programs than are county-based respondents. For every location, question 4e (regarding Extension scholarship’s contribution) has a significantly higher NOW mean than 4f (regarding non-Extension scholarship’s contribution).

Average changes were positive for all locations for both questions. For 4e, (regarding Extension scholarship’s contribution) but not 4f, ANOVA indicates significant differences between groups in the Average Change (1995-2001): the average change for campus-based respondents was significantly higher than that for county-based respondents. Data table & Significance tests

Hire Date

Those hired after January 1, 1995 gave higher mean NOW ratings on both items, but these differences were not statistically significant. As with the other types of breakout, 4e (regarding Extension scholarship’s contribution) has a significantly higher NOW mean than 4f (regarding non-Extension scholarship’s contribution).

The average change (1995-2001) showed no significant differences by date of hire. Data table & Significance tests
