Extension Service Multnomah County

Welcome

Downtown Portland

Oregon State University Extension Service is proud to announce the return of the 4-H Youth Development Program to Multnomah County with a new focus on sustainable living!

The mission of the 4-H Sustainable Living Program is to provide opportunities for youth to learn and grow while empowering them to make positive contributions within their families, community, country and world as they develop the skills and values necessary to address the environmental, social and economic challenges of today and tomorrow.

The 4-H Club Experience

Youth and their parents may now form 4-H clubs focusing on topics like preparing food from local gardens; exploring alternative solar, wind and wave energy; making and repairing clothing; taking care of 'back-yard' chickens; or owning and maintaining a bicycle and much more!

Sustainable Living After-school Programs

Are you a teacher or parent interested in developing long-term sustainable living education at your school?  Sustainability can be woven throughout the fabric of our lives.  Some examples of subject areas include food and food production, health and fitness, natural resources, waste reduction, energy, art, technology and public service.  Please contact us to explore ways 4-H staff can assist you.

Get Involved

The Sustainable Living Program is at the beginning of an exciting, journey.  It is your ideas, energy and commitment that will make Multnomah County 4-H the very best it can be.  Do you have ideas for 4-H clubs, after-school programs or summer programs?  Would you like to volunteer or learn about other ways you can support 4-H?  There are many ways to be involved and all inquiries are welcome.  Please call Jon Mayer at 503-916-6075 or email him.
