Family NutritionThe Oregon Family Nutrition Program (OFNP) provides food stamp eligible families with the information they need to make healthy food choices and choose active lifestyles. Participants learn practical skills in food budgeting, feeding children on a limited budget, food safety, food preparation, and other topics that reflect the most recent advice on dietary guidelines. Funding for OFNP, nationally known as Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE) is a collaborative effort. Local and state funding are matched with federal Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) dollars to provide staffing and support services needed to deliver quality educational programs in local communities. The Metro Hispanic Nutrition Program (MHNP) reaches out to the Latino community of the Portland Metropolitan area, teaching a variety of healthy eating and living topics, including preparing low-cost meals, feeding young children, stretching food dollars, planning nutritious meals, kitchen/food safety, and fun activities to keep fit. The Adult course is taught in Spanish as a series of classes and youth courses, which are offered in elementary school classrooms, after-school programs, and during the summer, are fun and interactive and taught in English.
