OSU sheep barns open for spring lamb viewing

CORVALLIS - The 2004 lambs are arriving at Oregon State University's Sheep Barn and the public is invited to view this annual spring ritual.

This year, more than 300 white Suffolk ewes are expected to give birth to about 700 lambs in the barn, located at 7565 N.W. Oak Creek Dr., said Thomas Nichols, the sheep barn manager.

The barns are open now and will remain open until April 2. The public can view the ewes and lambs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, and weekends. The barn will be closed for academic exercises March 12 and March 19.

Each year, the barns draw hundreds of school children and other visitors.

Groups of more than 10 visitors should first arrange an appointment by calling Helen Chesbrough at 541-737-4854, or by sending an e-mail to her at: helen.chesbrough@oregonstate.edu.
