'American Food Fight' returns to Portland

September 28, 2005

PORTLAND, Ore. - There’s going to be a food fight in Portland.

The Food Innovation Center is bringing back “American Food Fight™ … Portland Style” for a second year. It is a chance for food entrepreneurs throughout the region to submit their food ideas to a panel of judges and compete for recognition and assistance in bringing their products to market.

The winner will receive a $2,500 commercialization package from the Food Innovation Center, including expert help with recipe refinement, package design, marketing and more. Several contestants from last year’s event have already developed their ideas into products for the marketplace with help from the Food Innovation Center.

The Food Innovation Center is a collaboration of Oregon State University and Oregon Department of Agriculture offering one-stop access to people interested in developing new food products.

Contestants with a dream of commercializing their food product should bring their prepared dish and their best entrepreneur recipe story to the Portland Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Interstate Ave. and Drexler Dr. on Friday, Nov. 11. Doors open at 7 a.m., and contestants can line up as early as 6 a.m. There is a $20 entry fee.
