September 9, 2005

DALLAS – Jim Hermes, a long-time poultry specialist with the Oregon State University Extension Service, has been appointed to chair the Polk County Extension office in Dallas.

Hermes is also serving as temporary staff chair of the Lincoln County Extension office in Newport until a permanent staff chair is appointed.

A veteran Extension educator, Hermes began his career with the OSU Extension Service in 1987. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in avian sciences and genetics from the University of California at Davis.

“Hermes’ experience and background in delivering Extension educational programs will be a wonderful addition to our talented Extension staff in Polk County,” said Deborah Maddy, assistant director of the OSU Extension Service. “He will be a valuable resource and an excellent leader for our Extension outreach education efforts there.”

Hermes succeeds John Burt, who retired.
