OSU underwrites 3rd season of public television gardening series

January 31, 2006

CORVALLIS - The third season of "Smart Gardening," a nationally broadcast half-hour gardening television series on public television is underway. Smart Gardening grew out of efforts by the Oregon State University Extension Service to reach gardeners around the Pacific Northwest with research-based programming, several years ago. This 2006 season, OSU is the national underwriter of the half-hour television series.

Host Deanna Connell, an Oregonian, and four garden correspondents visit more than 80 experts this season, in a magazine-style series. Episodes include visits to France, California, The Netherlands, Virginia and the Pacific Northwest in search of the most interesting plants and the people who grow them.

There are 26 new episodes being nationally broadcast on public television stations across the country. In Oregon, the program airs weekdays at 7p.m. on OPB CREATE and at 2:30p.m. on OPB DTV. The series is produced by Chambers Gardening Productions in Eugene.
