Communicators make a splash at ACE

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University's Department of Extension and Experiment Station Communications and other units of OSU's Extension Service and College of Agricultural Sciences have received 12 awards in the annual competition of the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE).

The competition evaluated the entries of hundreds of communicators at universities, governmental agencies, nonprofit agencies and private companies in 11 countries who focus on agriculture, natural resources and life and human sciences. The OSU awards:

  • Gold Award in Information Technology/Interactive Media Program: Steve Dodrill, Bill Braunworth, Diane Meierhenry, Tom Weeks, Teresa Welch, Scott Gilpin, Andrea Dailey and Lynn Ketchum, for "Landmarks in Conservation," an OSU Extension Service educational DVD.
  • Gold Award in Promotional Writing: Bob Rost, for "Investing in Oregon – People, Economy, Environment," a publication about the work of OSU's Extension Service, Agricultural Experiment Station and Forest Research Laboratory.
  • Gold Award in Graphic Design, Print - Four or More Colors: Tom Weeks and Peg Herring, for Oregon's Agricultural Progress, a magazine that tells Oregonians about the work of OSU's Agricultural Experiment Station.
  • Two Gold and two Bronze awards for feature and environmental photography: Lynn Ketchum.
  • Silver Award in Graphic Design, Print - One to Three Colors: Tom Weeks, for the 2005 annual report of the Agricultural Research Foundation, based at OSU.
  • Silver Award in Writing for Magazines: Peg Herring, for an article about OSU research and extension work published in Oregon's Agricultural Progress magazine.
  • Bronze Award in Graphic Design, Cover: Tom Weeks and Peg Herring, for Oregon's Agricultural Progress magazine.
  • Bronze Award in Publishing, Magazines and Periodicals: Peg Herring, Tom Weeks, Lynn Ketchum, Karen Zimmermann and Bob Rost, for Oregon's Agricultural Progress magazine.
  • Bronze Award in Publishing, Electronic Publications: Peg Herring, Tom Weeks and Karen Zimmermann, for Oregon's Agricultural Progress magazine.
