Pork producers workshop scheduled

DALLAS, Ore. - Reproductive management and related nutrition issues are the focus of a pork production workshop scheduled Sept. 23 at the Wilco Central Office, 200 Industrial Way, in Mt. Angel.

The featured speaker is Tim Safranski, Extension swine breeding specialist from the University of Missouri.

The morning session is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon and includes a classroom session with presentations on reproductive management of sows and gilts, nutrition for good reproduction results, heat detection and insemination techniques, said Gene Pirelli, leader of Oregon State University's Extension Swine Program.

At noon the workshop moves to the Goschie Farm swine operation for lunch followed by a hands-on session and discussion. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to practice some of the techniques covered by Safranski in the morning session.
