OSU to host gerontology conference April 2-3 (03/20/2009)

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University will host its 33rd annual gerontology conference April 2-3 on campus.

The conference, which is aimed at health and human service professionals but is also open to the public, will feature 40 educational workshops. Topics will include rheumatoid arthritis, nutrition, oral health, sleep disorders, cholesterol modification, naturopathic approaches to aging, and geriatric care for individuals with mental illness.

Brenda Sulick, the director of federal health policy at the Alzheimer's Association, will give a keynote speech on April 2 about the latest congressional proposals to reform the national health care system.

The following day, Jerry Cohen, the state director for AARP Oregon, will give a keynote presentation about engaging in policy and advocacy efforts.

Registration costs $190 for both days and $100 for one day for those who sign up on or before March 27. The registration fee for students is $50 for the two days. To register, go to the 33rd Annual OSU Gerontology Conference home page or call 541-737-9300. Attendees can also register at the door.

The conference will take place at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center.
