  • Reggie Johnson, husband of Tonya Johnson in Marion County Extension, passed away on July 11, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Georgetown Guyana, Reggie had a spirit and sincere kindness like no other.  He traveled far, and also took great joy in sleeping at home.   He loved jazz, history, politics, great food and wine, and building campfires.   He especially LOVED books and one day dreamed of opening a bookstore – though realized that might not be the best idea since he wouldn’t have the heart to sell a book to just any person.   Over the past 19 months, Reggie lived his life as fully as possible with Stage IV colon cancer.  Through it all, Reggie remained witty, smart, and loved by all.  He will so sorely be missed.

In lieu of a memorial service, Reggie asks that people perform a day of service for one of their favorite charities.    A day of service was planned for family and friends. Donations may be given in Reggie’s name to Mission of Hope food bank or Marion Polk Food Share.

Reggie and Tonya are forever grateful for the support, love, and care from their families, both those by blood and those through connection, and Dr. Renee Prins and the Edelman team.

  • Alice Hoecker, passed away on July 11th.  Alice was the wife of Dale Hoecker (deceased), former Extension Specialist with OSU Extension for more than 30 years, working in Linn, Clatsop, Jackson, Josephine, Warm Springs Indian Reservation, and with the State 4-H program.

Many Extension faculty have benefitted over the years from the generosity of Dale and Alice Hoecker Awards Funds established in 1993 by Dale and Alice to support newer and experienced Extension faculty with annual award stipends and the Hoecker Innovative Grants Awards Program.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the Eugene Christian Fellowship, 89780 N. Game Farm Road, Eugene, OR 97408.
