Grafted Vegetables

“You’ll be able to purchase some tomatoes Master Gardeners have grafted on a hardier root stock to grow bigger, faster, stronger and resist disease,” said Polk County Master Gardener Plant Sale Chair Darrell Ward.  “Since we’ve done our own grafting this year, we will be able to offer the tomatoes you enjoy the most.”

Gardening related vendors will again have booths showcasing their products and services during the Plant Sale.

The Country Store

The popular country store returns with more space for yard art, tea pots, garden tools, bird cages, planters and pots and more.

“In fact, the Plant Sale Country Store can still use your tax-deductible items that can be refurbished to sell,” Cindy Bethell, chair of the country store said.  “We're looking for: metal or wood objects, vases, dishes, garden pottery, tea cups, pitchers, bowls, planters, bird houses or feeders, tools, furniture, collectibles or antiques.”

Funds from the Master Gardener Plant Sale provide gardening reference books for Polk County Libraries in Dallas, Independence and Monmouth. Funds are also used to provide a scholarship to a Polk County student studying Horticulture at an Oregon state college, university or community college.

Plant Sale profits are also used to purchase materials for the Master Gardener reference library, to cover costs for clinics and other projects, to underwrite the annual Fall Fling educational event and help with the Inspiration Garden at Mountain Fir Park in Independence.  For more information on the Plant Sale or Polk County Master Gardeners call 503-623-8395 or visit http://extension.oregonstate.edu/polk/mg
