Play More, Watch Less April 30-May 6, is National Screen-Free Week,
an annual celebration of the magic of being unplugged. During this
week, parents, children, teachers and others across the country turn
off screen media - including TVs, video games, computers, tablets,
e-readers, cellphones and smartphones - and get in touch with being
unplugged.
Did you know?
- Average American watches 36 hours of TV a week.
- 2- to 5-year-olds watch 25 hours of TV a week.
- 76 percent of 8- to 18-year-olds have an iPod or MP3 player and 66 percent have a cell phone.
- From
January to March 2012, more iPhones were sold than babies
were born
worldwide.

Gardening Corner: How to make your own potting soil

22nd Annual Polk County Master Gardeners Plant Sale
Set for Mother's Day Weekend, May 11th & 12th from 9am to 5pm in
Building C at the Polk County Fairgrounds, 520 S. Pacific Hwy W (99W)
in Rickreall, Oregon.
Admission and parking are free.- Herbs, vegetables, perennials & annuals, trees, shrubs, hanging baskets, houseplants and more than 150 African Violets will be for sale.
 - Certified Master Gardeners will be available to answer home gardening questions.
- Short demonstrations will be offered on topics including; planting tomatoes and cooking with fresh herbs.
- The ever popular Country Store will feature unusual garden-related items and yard art.
- The annual Plant Sale is the major fundraiser for the OSU Extension Polk County Master Gardeners.
