Oregon’s future prosperity rests on the next generation of business leaders. When you support 4-H Youth Entrepreneurs you are promoting growth in education, the workforce and the economy.

The Oregon 4-H Entrepreneur program is a new program of Oregon State University Extension 4-H in collaboration with the OSU College of Business.  The program is designed to provide high school youth with the

  • Opportunity to gain hands-on interactive business training and networking
  • Opportunity to earn college and event scholarships
  • Launch your team business with 4-H small business loans
  • Explore business careers, build their resume, and learn how to earn money!

New 4-H Entrepreneur Clubs now forming

We are now accepting applications for our new 4-H Entrepreneur Clubs.

Join us for a new pilot 4-H program – 4-H Entrepreneurs.  This program is designed to give high school youth real world experience creating,  launching, managing a business under the guidance and mentorship of OSU College of Business Students and local entrepreneurs.

Program Expectations

Selected high school youth will work in teams to select a business idea, develop a business plan, apply for a 4-H microenterprise loan and manage their business.  Club member expectations include:

  • Commit to the program one year
  • Commit to be a part of a team.
  • Commit to launching a company within one year
  • Must be able to, with club members, meet independently, be self-directing and meet deadlines without adult supervision.
  • Attend quarterly Family Night Meetings
  • Be available to attend a Fall Kick-off program at OSU campus in Corvallis in the fall and a Spring Summit (transportation and lodging provided)
Youth participants are also welcomed and encouraged to start their own independent businesses beyond their team business.
There will be a minimal cost ($50) to cover 4-H club dues and snacks. However, scholarships are available based on financial need.
Important Dates:
  • October 8-9, 2016 State 4-H Entrepreneurs Program Kickoff at OSU (food, lodging and transportation provided)
  • May 4-6, 2017 4-H Entrepreneurs Statewide Summit at OSU (food, lodging and transportation provided)
  • July 2017 TBD Young Entrepreneurs Business Week

May 5, 2017 4-H 

Our 4-H Entrepreneurs Summit with our OSU College of Business Mentors will take place May 5, 2017 at the OSU  Campus in Corvallis.  Youth from Portland and Eastern, OR will be coming together for a day of workshops, team business planning, and fun.  Here are the details to help you plan for the weekend.

  • Cost:  No cost to registered 4-H Youth Entrepreneur members
  • Transportation to and from Corvallis  We will be traveling toCorvallis via Enterprise rental vans
  • Departure time:  7:00 am  May 5th (pick up locations TBA)
  • Drop Off and Pick up location:  TBA (Portland, OR)
  • Arrival time back to Portland :  4:30-5:00  pm May 5th

4-H Company Advisors work with selected high school teams to select a business idea, develop a business plan, apply for a 4-H microenterprise loan and manage their business. Company Advisor expectations include:

  • Coach a youth team comprised of 4-8 members to develop and launch a small business
  • Complete a 2-hour 4-H Leader Orientation
  • Participate in virtual meetings (1-2 meetings a month) with youth teams and OSU College of Business students (2-3 hours/month in formal meeting time)
  • Coach youth team as needed in weekly business tasks between meetings as part of business launch
  • Commit 1 year to the program
  • Participate in evaluation of program
