The career of your dreams is within your reach. Together, OSU Extension 4-H and the Oregon Zoo are providing an exciting opportunity to help you explore different careers, prepare for education after high school, and thrive in leadership roles.

OSU Extenison 4-H and the Oregon Zoo are partnering to provide an exciting learning opportunity for high school teens at the Oregon Zoo. The goals of the program are to provide high school youth with hands on learning opportunities in

  • Leadership
  • Explopring post  high school education paths
  • Career exploration (animal science careers and non-animal careers)

Through the interactive program, you will

  • Discover future career pathways tailored to your interests and skills
  • Learn innovative ways to fund your education
  • Gain a unique insight from different professionals' career journey
  • Meet OSU faculty and students on a one day field excursion to Oregon State University campus

Class Handouts and Presentations

Training Seminars and Activities Include:

  • Exploring personal interests and skills for future careers
  • Panel presentation by career professionals in multiple animal and non-animal careers
  • Interactive presentations with Oregon Zoo Vets and animal keepers 
  • One-day field excursion to Oregon State University to meet with OSU Faculty and current students to explore higher education options within different college departments
  • Creative ways to Fund Your Education
  • Navigating the College Admissions Process
  • Exploring your post-secondary school options
  • Building a competitive application for school admissions

Who can Participate

  • Teens in grades 9-12 in one of these Zoo programs (Zoo Animal Presenters, Zoo Teen Ledership Corps and Family Farm Program
  • 4-H members and Teens in the Oregon
  • Teens from 4-H Partner Schools

How to Enroll

  • Complete the registration process (see below)
  • Commit to a 20 -hour training program and attend all training seminars by OSU and Zoo staff
  • Pay a $50 registration fee (SCHOLARSHIPS AVILABLE)
  • Parents are welcomed to attend the tainings as well.  Parents can attend either just the tour to OSU campus or all three days!

  1. STEP ONE:  Complete the ONLINE REGISTRATION to reserve your spot
  1. STEP TWO:  Parents are welcomed to attend the College Campus Tour with their son/daughter.  The cost is $25. (parents register online when registering their son/daughter)
  1. STEP THREE: Submit Payment

  • 4-H Scholarship Request: If you would like to request a scholarship to cover your $50 registration fee, please download and complete a scholarship request form and mail to OSU Extension 4-H, 3880 SE 8th Ave Portland,  Suite 170, Portland, OR  97202.  Or submit the form electronically to Maureen Hosty

January 27-28, 2018  from 9-3 pm PLUS an all day field trip to OSU on January 29th (7:30 am-5:00 pm).
