Revolution of Responsibility

About our Program

The Multnomah County Extension office, which opened in 1916, offered programs that helped youth, low-income families, the nursery and landscape industries, small farmers, recyclers, gardeners and others closed in 2003 after the county withdrew its support.

Since 2003, OSU Extension programs including 4-H in Multnomah County have operated solely on grants, contracts, fee for service and in-kind donations as its only revenue source from partnerships it has established.

OSU Extension utilizes federal and state monies for one 4-H faculty position in the County.  Other 4-H faculty and staff are paid from a variety of soft monies including grants, contracts, fee for service programming and the 4-H endowment.

While we offer a variety of robust and and high-quality programs due to limited 4-H staff and no county support, many 4-H programs offered in other counties may not be offered in Multnomah.  Please check out some of our programs and learn how you can get involved
