Q:

Can ladybugs kill plants in the vegetable garden?

- Douglas County, Oregon
A:

Lady bugs do not eat plant material. I have seen lady bugs congregate in big numbers on plants infested with aphids. The aphid feeding can kill plants and the lady bugs congregate to eat the aphids. When the aphids or other pests are dead some of the lady bug beetles might be the only insects still on the plants.
