Hi! My father purchased a second home that has a forest deferral. We want to improve the forest, but don't know where or how to start. Might even need help getting an analysis of the property/forest conditions. We also, just this weekend, discovered the ponds have two Western Pond Turtles, and we would like to improve their habitat. Can you help or recommend someone who can? It could be a great student project! Thanks! - Marion County, Oregon

Thanks for contacting us and congratulations on your family's purchase. It sounds like you would benefit from a visit from an OSU Master Woodland Manager. MWM's are forest landowners that have received extensive forestry training from Extension and volunteer their time to help educate other landowners and connect them to further assistance. I would be glad to help connect you with an MWM in your area who could help you get started. Please send me an email directly.

How exciting to spot the turtles. Western pond turtles are a sensitive species in Oregon. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife maintains a website where you can report a turtle sighting, learn about their habitat needs, and contact a biologist. Go to Native Turtles of Oregon online.
