Jackson County 4-H Camp at Lobster Creek
Dates: July 31 – August 4, 2017

Enjoy the smell of myrtle wood trees and pines.  Skip rocks on a crystal clear stream.  Run across the beach and build sandcastles at the coast.  Explore the night on a “no flashlight” hike.  4-H Camp is a 5 day, 4 night overnight experience for youth ages 9-15 years old.  Trained teen counselors use their leadership skills to carefully plan and execute programs under the guidance of caring adults; therefore theme based activities will vary from year to year.  Days will be filled with interesting classes, good food, smaller cabin based fun, large group activities, swimming, evening campfire programs and free-time.   In an environment created just for them, children learn real life skills, develop self-esteem, and gain a sense of independence and community. Whether children are playing, exploring nature, conquering new skills, or becoming part of a camp family, they are creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Campers will travel by bus to the secluded Lobster Creek Camp in Curry County, nestled among the beautiful pines of the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest. The park is a 52.5 acre facility with 11 camping cabins, a first aide cabin, adult staff cabins, and restroom/shower facilities. The property has a dining hall, kitchen, fireplace, performing stage area, picnic and play areas with access to Lobster Creek for swimming.  A qualified person is on duty at all times to handle health and accidents problems and a lifeguard supervises water activities.  Approximately 5-8 youth live in a single cabin with a youth counselor under the guidance of an adult volunteer.  Trained positive youth development 4-H Program staff serve as camp directors.

Camp is filled on a first come, first serve basis so register early!  Early registration is open to 4-H members from April 1st to May 31st.  Cost is $150 if paid by May 31st.

Camp registration is open to all non 4-H and 4-H members starting June 1.  Cost is $200 and includes transportation, housing, activities and food.  Payment is due with registration.  This camp is made possible by the generous support of the Jackson County 4-H Association and their sponsors.  Additional scholarships are available upon request.

NEWS!   HEADS UP IN THE SWINE WORLD!

PEDv has once again made an appearance in Oregon.  There has been a confirmed case in Clackamas County.  Please click on the attached links to read the statement from our State Veterinarian and OSU faculty regarding this matter.  The National Pork Board also has a very good resource giving information about this disease and ways to increase your biosecurity.  It is VERY important to be aware of how this disease is transmitted so you can help reduce the possible spread of this disease and protect the newly farrowed pigs in our area.
