Ben Yohai, farmer, will show us his biennial seed crops and discuss the challenges and benefits of growing them Ben has been growing seeds for a decade and contracts with multiple seed companies.

 

Farm Practices to Support Beneficial Insects, a two-day course

Day 1, June 9, endeavors to raise awareness of on-farm beneficial insects and birds and their roles and a.lso how to create farmscaping to attract and promote them.  Day 2, June 30, tours Wandering Fields Farm. Practice identifying beneficials in the field and obsesrve how a blend of hedgerows, cover crops, flowering seed crops and native plants creates a system of biological pest management.
Instructors: Dana Kristal, OSU Extension Small Farms, the BeeGirl Sarah Red-Laird, James Stewart and Ben Yohai.

Take a tour of Whistling Duck Farm. Mary Alionis will discuss managing an online garlic seed company and explain garlic production and storage. She will demonstrate her paper pot transplanter.

 

Dry Farm Field Day

The Field Day will begin at the OSU Extension Teaching Farm at 1 pm and continue to Ridgeline Meadows Farm in the Applegate. See crops grown without any supplemental irrigation and taste the resulots!
