SMALL RUMINANT SUSTAINABLE INTEGRATED PARASITE MANAGEMENT COURSE

Cost: $45 each

Select: Parasite Management in Small Ruminants SIPM One-day Workshop

Gastrointestinal parasites of sheep and goats are becoming increasingly resistant to currently available commercial dewormers. Parasite loads not only reduce performance, but can lead to death of infected animals. Also, resistant parasites can be moved to a new farm when animals are purchased, infecting the pastures and, therefore, other animals that graze there.

Producers must learn other, more sustainable techniques for managing parasites in their flocks. Our one-day class will include learning about: 1) managed grazing, FAMACHA, 5-point checks, fecal egg counts, body condition scoring, condensed tannin feeds, nutritional management, culling/selection and copper-oxide wire particles. Instructors: Susan Schoenian, American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasite Control, and, Angela Boudro, consultant Regenerative Agriculture and Animal Science.

NOTE: The June 30 class does not include DrenchRite testing, farm plan development or record-keeping.
